Jonathan Rea wins the Estoril Superpole (his thirty-sixth in his career) thus interrupting Toprak Razgatliuoglu's streak of pole position, first in both Aragon and Assen, while today it will be the Northern Irishman who takes the lead in race 1. Jonny was the fastest also with the race tire (1'36 "030) but once mounted the new SCQ set the fantastic time of 1'35" 346, with which he smashed the previous fastest lap of the track Portuguese, which he himself had established in last season's Superpole.

R.ea was 91 thousandths ahead of rival Toprak Razgatlioglu, who with a lap of 1'35 ”437 in turn fell below the previous fastest lap in Estoril. Alvaro Bautista will start with them from the front row, who was over six tenths behind in the fastest lap, but in free practice he proved to have a very fast race pace. Fourth position and second row for a surprising Scott Redding, never so high with BMW. Alongside him will be the two Italians Andrea Locatelli and Michael Ruben Rinaldi. The third row will be opened by Iker Lecuona, seventh ahead of Alex Lowes and Eugene Laverty. A constant Lucas Mahias (tenth in both free practice yesterday and in this Superpole) will open the fourth row. With him Xavi Vierge and Loris Baz, the only rider who crashed in this session. And speaking of slips and falls, after the unfortunate Michale Van der Mark who yesterday fractured the neck of his right femur, and Philipp Oettl with the fracture of his left collarbone, in this morning's free practice Garrett Gerloff fell causing a deep wound to his left knee that prevented him from participating in the Superpole and will exclude him from race1. His condition will be re-evaluated tomorrow morning before the Superpole race.

Qeleventh position and fifth row for Luca Bernardi. Xavi Fores, hastily called to replace Oettl, finished seventeenth, behind Marvin Fritz, Roberto Tamburini's replacement in Yamaha Motoxracing Team.
