SBK 2022. GP of Portugal, Toprak Razgatlioglu makes a mistake and Jonathan Rea wins the sprint race

On a track that is only partly dry, on the last lap Razgatlioglu saves himself “to Marquez” but has to give the first position to Rea. Third Bautista ahead of Lecuona and Locatelli

May 22, 2022 say never. When the race now seemed firmly in the hands of Toprak Razgatlioglu, a skid at the entrance to the Estoril "mini corkscrew" forced the Turk to get back up with his left knee, but obviously to shut off the gas, giving Jonathan Rea the green light. he followed at a short distance. A “Marquez-like” rescue with which Toprak limited the damage of a skid, which in any case cost him what would have been his first victory of this championship. Rea was good at believing it until the end, and finding himself in the exhaust of the Turkish R1 at just the right moment, winning his fourth win of the season, the number 116 of his amazing career.

AndA few laps were enough for Jonny and Toprak to break away from all the others, on a track that was initially only partly dry, but which has gradually dried up. Behind them Bautista was good at keeping the rampant Lecuona at bay, who gave up only in the final, also due to the intermediate tire chosen for the front. The Spaniard from Ducati once again gets on the podium and reduces the damage in the standings by losing five points to Rea and only two to Razgatlioglu.

B.ravo Andrea Locatelli not to make a mistake and to finish in fifth place, ahead of Alex Lowes who with one lap from the end overtook Scott Redding, who also confirmed his progress and those of his BMW in the sprint race. Another subdued race for Michael Ruben Rinaldi who chose an intermediate tire at the front. Xavi Fores never ceases to surprise with the Panigale V4 of the GoEleven team that he saw for the first time only yesterday morning. After the eleventh place in race 1, the Spaniard collects a point in the sprint race, preceding Axel Bassani in turn penalized by an intermediate front tire. After an initial off-piste at the first corner, Luca Bernardi ends fifteenth.

Many falls: Lucas Mahias, Marvin Fritz, Xavi Vierge, Loris Baz and Eugene Laverty. Unfortunately the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider fractured the fifth metacarpal of his right hand, and he will not be able to takestart in Race 2.
